About this Event

Join us for this year’s Fall Harvest of Hope, The Port Ministries' annual celebration and fundraiser. Enjoy food, drinks and great company as we celebrate the many individuals who volunteer and support our free Franciscan inspired programs and services. This year, join us as we celebrate Capuchin Franciscan, Brother MJ Groark and our Free Clinic Coordinator, Molly Gabaldo.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

Over the past three years, The Port Ministries has become a thriving community space that I find hard to leave at the end of the workday. I say “hard to leave” because this organization, nicknamed a place of “prayer and hope,” has become more than my job; it has become my home. But it is not just my home. It has become home to the people who join me for morning prayer. Home to the families sharing a meal off our Bread Truck or treated by the doctors in our Heath Clinic. Home to the children playing in our gym or doing their homework in our After-School program. It is home to all the volunteers who take ownership over our organization’s programs and services.

I am sure this feeling of home is exactly what Father “Gus” Milon intended when opening the Port Ministries 34 years ago. Our Franciscan inspired mission to provide the fundamental needs of the mind, body, and spirit is as relevant today as when it was first created in 1985. The Port Ministries is more than a place of “prayer and hope,” it has become a home where you can witness God’s love in the most unexpected places.

The community ownership that makes The Port Ministries a welcoming home for so many is only possible because of your continued support. On October 13th, we invite you to celebrate our organization and join us in acknowledging two individuals heavily responsible for our success: Molly Gabaldo, Free Clinic Coordinator, and Capuchin Franciscan, MJ Groark.

MOLLY GABALDO, Health Clinic Coordinator

Molly Gabaldo is responsible for jumpstarting two of our seven existing programs and services. Along with volunteering her time as our Health Clinic Coordinator, Molly was one of the original residents living in our intentional covenant community, the Hope House.

During her time here, Molly was an active member of our Young Professional Board, expanded our Health Clinic’s services to include mental health, and engaged our community through events and various volunteer opportunities.

Molly has our love and support as she moves on to focus on her career as a registered nurse and her ongoing education.

BROTHER MJ GROARK, Capuchin Franciscan

Capuchin Franciscan, Brother MJ Groark has been an active volunteer and the primary liaison between our organization and other Franciscans living in Chicago. From scheduling our masses and supporting our Bread Truck, to teaching “Intro to St. Francis” community workshops, Brother MJ continuously champions The Port Ministries’ Franciscan inspired mission.

After completing his studies at Chicago Theological Union (CTU), Brother MJ will be leaving Chicago to share his love and faith as a deacon in a parish in Montana.

Please join us for this year’s Fall Harvest of Hope and celebrate our organization and these two wonderful individuals!
