Fall Aerospace STEM Academy (ASA) at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

Available Tracks:


Model Rocketry Track -

Model Rocketry – Beginner $45 Hands-On phases for Redstone and Titan stages of the CAP Model Rocketry Program. Proof of completion of online Redstone and Titan stage tests must be presented at sign-in.

Model Rocketry – Intermediate $45 Hands-On phases for the Saturn stage of the CAP Model Rocketry Program. Proof of completion of the online Saturn stage test must be presented at sign-in.

Model Rocketry – Advanced I $100 Cadets MUST have completed the CAP Model Rocketry Program to attend. Seniors must have completed Level 1. Hands-On phases for the Columbia and Challenger Stages of the CAP Model Rocketry Program. Cost includes a high-power rocket kit and applicable rocket engines for both stages. Launch will not occur during this weekend. It will be held on another weekend at a NAR-approved launch. All students must have a current NAR membership prior to launching these rockets. Proof of completion of the online Columbia stage test must be presented at sign-in along with a current NAR membership card. NAR membership can be completed at the NAR Membership Page. Cost is $25/year for members under the age of 26. Members 26 years old and older, the cost is $62/year.

Model Rocketry – Advanced II $35 Cadets MUST have completed Model Rocketry – Advanced I to attend. Part II Hands-On phases for the Columbia and Challenger Stages of the CAP Model Rocketry Program. Launch will not occur during this weekend. It will be held on another weekend at a NAR-approved launch. Proof of completion of the online Columbia stage test must be presented at sign-in along with a current NAR membership card.

Robotics Track​ - Cadets - $25. We will build the Robotic Arms from the STEM kits.


FREE Special Activities for Fall!

  1. Introduction to the Weather Station and basics of Weather (1-3 hours depending on time)!
  2. Solar Panel Project for Garden lights and/or toys!
  3. Saturday evening, 19:30, the movie Wall-E (G Rated) will be shown. Cadets are allowed to have a soda or hot chocolate and chips ($1 during the movie); Popcorn will be available for FREE.

Fee includes ​2 Breakfasts, 2 Lunches, and 1 Dinner meal. Sign in will begin at 1800 hrs Friday. ​There will be an initial safety briefing at 2000 hrs on Friday. All members should try to be signed-in prior to that time. If you are going to be arriving later than 2000, inform Col O’Neill via email, text or phone to make other arrangements.


Training will conclude and members will demobilize NLT 1200 ​hrs on Sunday, after Graduation and Clean-up; Cadets will receive a sack lunch to take with them.

UNIFORM WEAR: Any authorized uniform combination

IAW CAPM 39-1 MUST be worn, but ABU/BDU’s/Utility uniforms preferred.


ACCESSING FT LEONARD WOOD: Current instructions on requesting a Post Pass and acceptable forms of identification that comply with the REAL ID Act are attached.

EXPECTATIONS: Training will be conducted in accordance with CAPR 50-20 CAP Model Rocketry Program and the CAP Model Rocketry Program books, to include building several models with differing fuel sources, then demonstrate their successful launch, flight, and recovery; and/or CAP AEX MARC module.

Cadets who are between phases can complete partial tracks and their material fee will be reduced, accordingly. Please identify these cadets upon RSVP. Members may arrive after 1800 hrs on Friday to remain overnight.

CADET SPECIFIC INFORMATION

a. Cadets must hold and take their own medication. However, please identify medications to their responsible Senior Member, on the CAPF 163, and attached Medication Form.

b. All members must have a CAPF 60-80 signed by their Unit Commander and cadets under the age of 18 by their Parent/Guardian.

c. There will be both male and female Senior Members RON on premises and genders will billet separately.

d. Cadets will be assigned to Tracks and may be placed into leadership positions commensurate with their rank.

e. Good order and disciplined will be maintained. Horseplay and inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. Squadron Commanders will be contacted and cadets will not be allowed to graduate for misbehavior and honor code violations. Please remember and live by the CAP Core Values.

f. All cadets must have two copies of CAPF 161. Each must be signed and sealed in individual envelopes with their name and emergency contact phone number on the front.

HOW TO PAY: Members can pay by cash or checks/money orders drafted to: “Missouri Wing Civil Air Patrol.” Units paying for their members may do a draft back to Missouri Wing’s Aerospace Education Activity account.

PREREQUISITES -Senior members MUST have completed Level I. Cadets MUST have completed their CURRY Achievement. All other prerequisites are track specific.

DIRECTIONS

a. GPS devices do not work well on Ft Leonard Wood. Please switch your navigation skills to analog and print the attached vector. If you want to attempt to use your GPS, here is the lat/long of the HQ:

b. Take heed of the warning against talking/texting on cell phones and speeding. Come on, it's a Military Police training base! So be careful.

c. Drivers must have valid Driver's License and 2nd ID to comply with the REAL ID requirement. See attached. Also be sure to have current vehicle registration and proof of insurance in the vehicle. Please be nice to the gate guards.

d. HOT! All members over the age of 18 and parents transporting cadets should have requested a pass IAW instructions that have been sent out. The Visitor Center is open 24/7. If you encounter any problems,



Fort Leonard Wood Post Pass Request

Below is the link to the IM3500 Pass Application Portal which the Ft Leonard Wood Security Office is using to process background screenings for individuals requesting access to Ft Leonard Wood. All individuals over the age of 18 who need access to Ft Leonard Wood must complete this process. Once this application is complete, give the process at least a week to ensure processing and approval can be completed. Upon approval, the requestor can pick up their pass at the Main Gate Visitors Center on Missouri Avenue.
