ABOUT THE ARMORY INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CAMP

OVERVIEW

The Fall 2019 Armory Indoor Track and Field Camp is now available! After very successful camps for three years running, we are back for our annual fall camp to help high school track & field athletes prepare for the indoor season. This camp we will feature some of the best coaching minds in the sport and some of the finest American athletes in track & field.

The event will take place at the historic Armory in New York City, located at 216 Fort Washington Ave in Washington Heights. The Armory is home to one of the finest indoor track & field facilities in the world.

The structure of the event will follow the November 2018 camp format by featuring a morning and afternoon session. This will allow all student-athletes the opportunity to register for more than one event or attend for just a half day.

PRICING:

Early Bird Registration Pricing (6/1 - 9/30)
$85 per session (morning and/or afternoon): includes one session of instruction, camp shirt, bag and access to digital instructional information provided by camp coaches.

Regular Registration Pricing (10/1 - 10/31)
$110 per session (morning and/or afternoon): includes one session of instruction, camp shirt, bag and access to digital instructional information provided by camp coaches.

Late Registration Pricing (11/1 - 11/22)
$135 per session (morning and/or afternoon): includes one session of instruction, camp shirt, bag and access to digital instructional information provided by camp coaches.

*In order to be a part of both sessions (morning and afternoon) or to be involved in more than one event group, each student-athlete must register for both sessions. Registration for one session, does not grant access to the full day

2019 NEW BALANCE ARMORY CAMP LIMITED EDITION BACKPACK

For all athletes that sign up for both the morning and afternoon sessions, they will now receive a limited edition New Balance backpack. The backpack will also be available for general sale through the link below. The backpack is a track and field bag with the Armory Camp logo embroidered on the front. The backpack can be picked up on the day of the camp only. There will be a limited quantity so order right away!

8:00-8:20am: Welcome & staff athlete and coach introductions (arena floor)

8:20-8:30am: Split into groups and warm up

8:30-10:50am: Individual group work

SPRINTS

Lisa Morgan:  Morgan averaged three division one scholarship-athletes per year while coaching at Columbia High School from 2008-2015. She is currently the head track and field coach at Bloomfield College.

Robin Reynolds:  Reynolds was a part of the University of Florida's national champion 4x100 and 4x400 teams in 2015. She was also a 16x All-American for the gators and currently competes on the professional track and field curcuit.

HURDLES

Andy Capellan:  Capellan is the head track and field coach at New Rochelle High School. Since 1975, he has led his teams to claim 44 County Championships, 50 League titles and 37 Sectional Championships for Section One Class A/AA across the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Dwayne Evans:  Evans has coached multiple New York state and city champions and is currently an assistant indoor track and field coach for Team Jamaica. He was an All-American hurdler while at Ohio State.

DISTANCE

Bart Sessa:  Sessa coached the Syosset boys team to 10 consecutive Section 8 cross country championships from 1996-2006 and guided his 2005 team to an indoor national record in the 4x800.

LONG JUMP & TRIPLE JUMP

Dominic Zanot:  As head of the boys track and field program at Harrison High School, Zanot recently led his team to capture their League Championship for the 8th year in a row – and the 10th in the last 12 years.

HIGH JUMP

Priscilla Frederick:  Frederick competed in the 2016 Olympics and earned silver at the 2015 Pan American Games for Antigua and Barbuda. She also was a 2x All-American while at St John's University.

Amina Smith:  Smith was an NCAA All-American high jumper at the University of Maryland in 2014. She has continued with an impressive pro career where she has placed 7th or higher at every US Championship indoor and outdoor from 2016 to present including a 4th place finish at the US Olympic Trials in 2016. Smith is from Lusby, MD.

THROWS

Matt Ellis:  Ellis is the owner of Primal Athlete Training Center and Elite Throws Coaching based out of Rhode Island. He threw the shot and discus at Stonehill College in Massachusetts. Ellis has held overnight and weekend camps all over the United States, coached 16 RI state champions in the shot put and discus, and has produced over 750 how-to throwing videos on his YouTube channel Elite Throws Coaching.

Scott Menin:  Menin is the head throws coach for AOC, an AAU club team in Pennsylvania, that's produced national medalists in 21 of his 22 years and three national champions! He also coaches the throws at 6x PA AAA State girls' championship team, Cheltenham HS.

POLE VAULT

Tim St. Lawrence:  St. Lawrence is director of the acclaimed Hudson Valley Flying Circus and has coached 10 athletes to jump over 16 feet, included a former New York state record holder.

Stephanie Duffy:  Duffy is one of the greatest high school pole vaulters in New York State history, while at Washingtonville HS. She was a 3x State Champ and All-American. She went on to compete for University of South Florida where she was Big East Champion and NCAA Provisional qualifier. Stephanie now coaches at Hudson Valley Flying Circus.

FAQs

Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Yes, this camp is reserved for athletes in grades 9-12.

Will the camp be active practice sessions or just lecture?

The camp will be a mix of both. All attendees will learn about the events from the staff members, but will also go through a series of drills and practice sessions during the camp.

Can I participate in more than one event group?

Yes! An athlete can register for one event group in the morning and another event group in the afternoon.

What should I bring?

Athletic wear, running shoes, spikes (no spikes will be allowed in the shoes), water bottle

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The Armory is located on Fort Washington Ave between 168th & 169th Streets, one block west of Broadway. It is accessible off the West Side Highway or the FDR. The Armory is also in close proximity to public transportation. Below is a listing of the different ways available to access the Armory.

Subway: We are located one block west of the 168th Street stop off the A & C trains (168th street stop on the 1 train is out of service).

Bus: The M4 stops directly in front of our building on Fort Washington Avenue. M100, Bx7, M5 and M3 have stops one block west of the Armory on Broadway & 168th Street
