Description

This past year we’ve fought off proposed tax hikes graduate students and the elimination of student loan deductions. We now face policies restricting the financing of student loans, restricting international students, and the stripping away of protections for underrepresented student populations. In difficult times like these, we want you to know that the NAGPS is fighting for you. We invite you to take part in our Fall Advocacy Summit/Legislative Action Days in Washington, DC from September 29th to October 2nd, to advocate on behalf of graduate students at your institutions.

The Fall Advocacy Summit is designed to prepare attendees for their meetings with their representatives on Capitol Hill. The two days of the Advocacy Summit will include informational sessions on policy initiatives, and best practices for conducting meetings with policymakers on issues in higher education policy. This year's event will focus on higher education funding, HEA, student loans, science policy, unionization, F1 Visas, and DACA.

Graduate and Professional Students have a profound impact on the US economy. You contribute to bodies of research, teach classes, work in the field, research cures for diseases, and contribute to advancements in technology. Graduate students go on to become scientists, teachers, professors, public servants, social workers, healthcare providers, provide care for mental health, drug rehabilitation services, criminal justice, and business professionals. The contributions to society people with graduate degrees make is immense. People with these degrees are vital to providing the care, education, and services needed to future generations to prosper.

The Westin Arlington Gateway is offering reduced group rate until September 7 for $149 per night! To make reservations please call: (703) 717-6200.

** When making reservations, make sure you identify yourself with the NAGPS Fall Advocacy Summit and Legislative Action Days to receive the rate listed above**

Registration is $100 for members, and $150 for nonmembers. This includes registration, a buffet breakfast, morning and afternoon coffee/food breaks, and a welcome reception on friday.

If you have any questions email Joseph Verardo at vice-president@nagps.org. We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,
