The Cincinnati Christian University Department of Behavioral Sciences is pleased to present the 2013 Fall Counseling Summit featuring Attorney Michael A. Hochwalt, Ed.D., LPCC-S and Debra Cotter, M.S., LPCC-S, LICDC, LSW.

The Cincinnati Christian University Department of Behavioral Sciences is an approved continuing education provider by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board. The following continuing education units (CEUs) are available for attendees:

COUNSELING SUMMIT PRESENTERS


Debra Cotter received a Master’s degree in Community Counseling from the University of Dayton in 1997. She is currently a Professional Clinical Counselor-Supervisor, is independently licensed as a chemical dependency counseling, and is certified as a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor.  Debra is currently a member of EAGALA, APT, and ACA. Debra worked at a Middletown, Ohio community mental health agency for 14 years and was eventually named the Director of Addiction Services and the Clinical Director.  In March 2012, Debra and three colleagues partnered to establish a new agency called Access Counseling Services (ACS), which has expanded to two locations with approximately thirty clinicians and support staff.  Debra currently serves as the Clinical Director at ACS, in which she enjoys a variety of supervisory duties, especially the intern training program that she has nurtured into a thriving cultivation of emerging eager therapists.

Dr. Michael Hochwalt received a master’s degree in psychological counseling from the University of Cincinnati in 1977 and later received an Ed.D. in counseling from the University of Cincinnati in 1980; he is currently an independently licensed supervising counselor (LPCC-S). Dr. Hochwalt also obtained a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Dayton in 1984 and is currently a partner at Hochwalt & Schiff, LPA. Dr. Hochwalt regularly conducts training seminars regarding legal and ethical issues for professional counselors and school counselors.

A continental breakfast will be provided at morning check-in, and snacks will be available at the mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks. Please register early for the 2013 Fall Counseling Summit. ABOUT THE SUMMIT


The Fall Counseling Summit will feature two training sessions. The morning session, led by Ms. Debra Cotter, is titled “Supervision:  Thinking Outside the Box.” In this workshop, Ms. Cotter will articulate supervision methods that employ creativity and play therapy techniques.

The afternoon session, led by Dr. Michael Hochwalt, is titled “Legal and Ethical Update for Ohio Mental Health Therapists” and will provide an informative overview of recent Ohio CSWMFT Board cases, duty to warn, child abuse, subpoenas, and privileged communication.
