According to data from the Ministry of Health, diabetes mellitus has been the leading cause of death in Belize, 10 years running. Studies from other countries also have verified similar data and trends. With up to 80% of diseases, including hypertension, heart disease, cancer and diabetes, being attributed to the very food we eat. This proves that we are not just causing the issue, but we are maintaining it throughout the years with our unhealthy habits.
To help bring awareness to these issues, the Belize Volunteers Club, are organizing a health fair fundraiser and run, to be held on December 3rd, 2016. The Health Fair will focus on creating new healthy habits and getting rid of the old destructive one. With an effort to inspire Belizeans to get active, stay healthy and live more.
The fair will feature the Fajina Team Challenge, and the Fajina 5K Christmas Walk.
