This interactive presentation promotes best-practice healthcare by exploring the integration of the intentional care of the spirit provided through the specialty practice of faith community nursing as a complimentary component of mainstream nursing and chaplaincy in various healthcare settings. A review of the interaction of faith and health throughout history, a description of the specialty practice including development, multi-religion and global perspectives, current Scope & Standards of practice, and how faith community nurses work in partnership with other healthcare and spiritual care providers will be explored.

After this presentation, you will have:

1. An understanding of the relationship of faith and health throughout history

2. A broader perspective of how faith influences healthcare decisions and lifestyles of individuals, families, and communities

3. An introduction to the specialty practice of faith community nursing

4. Options for healthcare and spiritual care professionals to work in partnership to provide high quality wholistic care.

By introducing the specialty practice of faith community nursing and various spiritual care aspects common in the specialty practice, mainstream nurses will have an avenue to develop their skills in spiritual care. Chaplains and other spiritual care providers will gain a greater understanding of how partnering with faith community nurses will provide enhanced spiritual care.
