Who Should Attend?

Religious professionals, executive directors and managers of faith-based community centers, day care centers and other faith-based community organizations and institutions.

Religious facilities serve people of all faiths and denominations in the Greater Cleveland area. Religious facilities are generally open-access public assembly venues that have been successfully targeted by terrorists on numerous occasions in the past. Typically, religious facilities offer generally unrestricted access to religious services, parking areas and separate educational facilities; building systems that are vulnerable to fire, contamination and blocked exits; and nonprofit status with limited resources for security. While many faith-based institutions are prepared to handle petty crime, most are not prepared to respond or mitigate more serious threats. This half-day seminar is intended to bring together faith-based ministries and other places of worship to help foster a culture of resiliency.

This seminar includes information about:

  • Extremism in Houses of Worship: Prevention, Preparation & Response
  • Physical Security
  • Dealing with Difficult Visitors
  • Hate Crimes
  • Volunteer Training
  • Personal/Family Preparation
  • Business Continuity Planning
  • Crisis Communications

Speakers include:

Mayor Gary Starr
Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams
