Race and Faith has added educational travel experiences to our racial justice work. The rich history and powerful landmarks across the United States, enhanced by knowledgeable and engaging guides make for a transformational experience. Educational tours that explore American slavery and Black American Civil Rights will enhance your on-going commitment to racial justice and provide a platform for deeper conversations about the workings of racism in the United States and how it intersects with one’s faith.
So what is the Faith and Freedom Tour?
An intergenerational, educational tour exploring American Slavery/ Black American Civil Rights in Montgomery, Selma, and Birmingham, Alabama. Racism in the United States and the role of faith then and now will be the focus of this tour.
What will we do: We will visit important sites such as: The National Memorial for Peace and Justice, The Voting Rights Museum and the 16th Street Baptist Church. Visiting these sites as well as others, will aid in deepening the understanding of American slavery as well as the civil rights movement in Alabama. At the end of each day spent visiting important sites, we will debrief the day’s experience to help participants process what they have seen and heard. We will also lead a daily worship experience highlighting the role of faith, during slavery and the civil rights movement making connections to the country’s struggle for civil rights today. While we recognize there are many “isms” to tackle, this trip will maintain the focus on racism and the role of the church, realizing that the lessons gained will enhance participants’ ability to be more loving and just in many areas.
These tours are intergenerational, ages 13 &up. We encourage dialogue across the generations to better enhance understanding and strengthen our knowledge base.
