The Golden Gate Railroad Museum Diesel Department has been working several years to bring this locomotive back to operation and now on March 29, 2014 SP 1487* it will make its Inaugual run.
Come out for a twilight-evening run as we put this unique opposed-piston engine through its paces during a round trip ride through Niles Canyon stopping for photo runbys. As darkness falls, you'll be able to see the unique SP Style ash-can Gyra-lights in action.
We'll be serving Snacky-cakes, sodas and adult beverages during the evening.

* This SP 1487 is the former USA 1847 acquired from The Hawthorn Naval Weapons Depot in Nevada. It has been painted and restored to represent the first class of FM switchers purchased by the SP, all of which have been scrapped. This unit was not ever owned by SP and was restored as a replica clone of SP 1487.
