About this event

Fair Housing Means Access

Many people living with disability are familiar with federal protections offered by the Americans with Disabilities Act; these apply to education, employment, communications and areas of public accommodation. Others know their rights under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in any publicly funded structure, activity or program. But some are unaware of their basic rights to equity under the Fair Housing Act.

This Zoom session will explore the specific aspects of the Fair Housing Act that apply to the design and construction of multifamily housing, and the need to expand access to other housing types. Then we will outline the right to request a reasonable accommodation in policies or a physical modification needed to make full use of housing. We will outline the basics everyone should know, discuss how to recognize and report possible violations, and field audience questions.

This session is free and registration is required. Please contact Cristina at cristinac@ihfa.org to discuss any specific accommodation needed to participate. The session will feature ASL interpretation and be recorded and captioned for future review.
