Event description

Description

Fail Better is an 11 week (12 weeks inc. break for half-term) workshop-based course with an emphasis on writers producing quality fiction in a supportive and inspiring collaborative environment. Through analysis of published work and the work of fellow writers in the group we will develop our understanding of what it takes to produce publishable fiction.

Explorations of technique, process and motivation form a large part of the course. As does reading. ‘If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.’ (Stephen King: On Writing). With this in mind we look at examples of strong fiction and learn how to read like a writer. What is being done here? How is it done?

Writing will of course be central, and every student will have their own work read by the other writers in the group, and will have several opportunities to have their work critiqued in class, gaining confidence, skill and insight into the writing process as we go.

Writers will also have an opportunity to perform their work at one of the monthly spoken word events hosted by London Writers’ Eclective.

Participants will have an option to continue into terms two and three, with writers invited to submit to a collection of fiction published by London Writers’ Eclective in the summer of 2018.
