Description
This faculty-only workshop encourages participants to reflect on their communication challenges in mentoring and uses these as a focus of the workshop. The workshop is based upon four teaching principles: learner-centered, experiential, problem-oriented and skills-based. Being experiential, sociodramatic role-plays are used in which learner challenges are translated into scenarios which the learners participate in as either a mentee or mentor role. In this context, participants learn skills such as how to engage learners, give corrective feedback, and deal with emotions that often are the subtext of difficult or crucial conversations.
Facilitator: Walter Baile, MD, Program Director, Interpersonal Communication and Relationship Enhancement, MD Anderson
