Event description

Description

Now in its second year, the Faculty Startup Sprint is 5.5-day intensive program sponsored by the National Science Foundation, where faculty entrepreneurs and their PhD/postdoc teams test the commercial potential of their research with customers and partners. By the end of the program, teams will have devised an evidence-backed business case to compliment their technology.

The Faculty Sprint introduces methodology adopted by the NSF,NIH, DOD, DOE and other, which pushes teams to conduct rigorous primary customer research and get feedback from experienced mentors and peers. All teams participating in the Faculty Sprint will be eligible to apply to the NSF I-Corps program (even if they have no prior NSF funding lineage), and will also be well positioned for a strong SBIR/STTR grant application.

We are looking for up to 12 teams to join this next cohort of Faculty Startup Sprint. We will give preference to teams with 2 or more that have at least one faculty, PhD student, and postdocs co-founder (though individual faculty members, PhD students, or postdocs are also welcome to apply).

Here are the dates to know:

  • Application due: Tuesday, July 2nd at 6pm

  • Selected teams announced: Friday, July 19th (note teams will be interviewed prior to acceptance)

  • Half-Day Orientation: August 2nd, 2pm-6pm

  • Program dates: August 26-30, all day

If you’re interested in applying, please be sure to attend one of the info sessions. During the sessions, you’ll hear from fellow NYU faculty members who will offer deeper insights into their experience using this methodology.
