Agenda

8:00 - Welcome

8:15 - Preparing for an Active Shooter Event — Special Agent Jim Olson, Federal Bureau of Investigation
Active shooter incidents are often unpredictble and evolve quickly. Typically, the immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop the shooting and mitigate harm to victims. Individuals must be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with an active shooter situation. In this presentation, you will learn how to better prepare for an active shooter situation.

9:30 - The Complexities of Large Property Losses — Marilene Sowa, AIC. General Adjuster, Sedgwick
Large-loss property damages create a series of challenges that directly and indirectly affect the operations and workflow of an organization. Large losses are a complex challenge, and learning to navigate the complexities will assist you should you find yourself in such an unfortunate situation.

10:15 - Break

10:30 - Gaps That Sabotage Your Emergency Plans & How to Fill Them — Jeffory Mulcahy, Emergency Manager, Sandy City
Disaster response and recovery is a multi-pronged effort between many entities in order to be effective. Emergency plans must account for every disaster and contingency; unfortunately many plans contain gaps that hinder an effective response to responding to emergencies. Learn how to identify gaps that exist in your emergency plans and rectify them before it’s too late.

11:15 - The Rise in ADA Non-compliance Claims — How to Be Prepared — Matt Harrison, Attorney at Law, Strong & Hanni
ADA non-compliance claims are on an upward trend, and some of these claims — like sinks being too low or toilet seats that aren’t high enough — are on the frivolous end. While ADA compliance is necessary, this presentation will assist in preparing to defend against suits that lack serious purpose and eat up organizational time and resources.

12:00 - Facility Management on a Budget — Bob Askerlund, Associate Vice President of Facilities, Salt Lake Community College
Budgets are a constant challenge, and in some cases, it seems like no matter how much is saved, cuts are inevitable. Effectively managed budgets maximize the resources allotted to an organization. Learn how to make better use of your budger and maximize its use.
