Event description

Description

The APEC Cross-Border Privacy Rules (CBPR) System and the complementary Privacy Recognition for Processors (PRP) system build consumer, business and regulator trust in cross-border transfers of information, which are critical components of a digital economy. Under these systems, organizations can certify to Accountability Agents (AAs) that they are operating in compliance with the APEC Privacy Framework principles. These voluntary commitments are then subject to enforcement by the appropriate Privacy Enforcement Authorities (PEAs). The CBPR System was first endorsed by APEC Leaders in 2011, and in 2016 Leaders reaffirmed their support and “recognize[d] the importance of implementing” the System.

You may register for either or both days of this event by clicking on the green "REGISTER" button on this page.

The Seminar on the afternoon of December 5 will provide a general overview of the CBPR and PRP systems, and will be of interest to businesses interested in learning more about the benefits of becoming certified under these systems and how to apply.

The full day Workshop on December 6 will go into greater depth and will offer practical assistance to governments and regulators that are interested in implementing the CBPR system.
