Description

This day-long workshop will take you through what is involved in facilitating mindfulness to groups in any setting, whether in healthcare, the workplace, in education or elsewhere. We will move between experiential and didactic sessions throughout the day as we examine how mindfulness is mapped on to experiential learning. The essential qualities and attitudes of a mindfulness facilitator will be explored as it relates to embodiment and the inquiry process. Establishing participant guidelines and intentions, functions and stages of the group and how the group teaches itself will be covered. Lastly, we will address how to build a container of safety and work within your setting.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how mindfulness facilitation is informed by experiential learning
  • Know the stages of group process
  • Learn how to create a group learning environment
  • Learn best practices for managing a range of participant experiences
  • Know how to investigate experience at an introductory level

Presenter Bios:

Patricia Rockman MD, CCFP, FCFP is a physician with a focused practice in mental health. She is the co-founder and director of education and clinical services at the Centre for Mindfulness Studies (CMS) in Toronto. She is also an associate professor at the University of Toronto, Department of Family and Community Medicine cross appointed to Psychiatry. Patricia Rockman developed the MBCT Facilitation Certificate Program at CMS as well as numerous other workshops. She teaches locally, nationally and internationally in the area of mindfulness- based programs (MBSR, MBCT, Inquiry). She is a mentor for both MBCT and MBSR trainees. Inquiry as it relates to practice is a passion. She is a co-author with Susan Woods and Evan Collins of "Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy: Embodied Presence & Inquiry in Practice,” (New Harbinger Publications, June 2019). She is also a trained Yoga teacher and has been teaching on stress, mindfulness, change management and other mental health issues for over thirty-five years.

Evan Collins MD FRCPC is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto’s department of psychiatry and staff psychiatrist at the Toronto General Hospital where he is affiliated with the Immunodeficiency Clinic. His clinical and research interests include HIV, cancer and therapeutic mindfulness. He is trained in MBSR and MBCT, and runs groups at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre as well as the Centre for Mindfulness Studies. He also trains healthcare providers in the use of mindfulness-based interventions.

What's the refund policy?

Registration ticket cancellations prior to July 30th, 2019 receive a refund less 25% of the registration price. Tickets cancelled prior to August 31st, 2019 receive a refund less 50% of the registration price. After September 1st, 2019, tickets are non-refundable.

One (1) attendee name change is permitted on a registration ticket up to 10-days before the workshop start date. No changes are permitted after that date.

In the unlikely event, the workshop is cancelled, we will refund all tickets limited to the amount paid. No other refunds or compensation will be provided. Speakers are confirmed. However, sometimes life events may prevent them from attending as expected.
