A One-Day Training to Boost Your Skills

In collaborative efforts, good meetings are a vehicle for moving your work forward – they help you make plans and decisions, share information, think together about tough issues, explore and resolve tensions, and build relationships and trust. If you are responsible for organizing and leading meetings, you know the challenge of juggling the different needs, agenda items, and personalities.

This training will strengthen your skills to plan and facilitate meetings so they make better use of time, are more joyful, and lead to greater impact.

Join a small group of environmental and conservation leaders for a highly interactive, learning opportunity to build your meeting planning and facilitation skills. You will walk away with knowledge, tools and tactics to use in the meetings you lead and participate in. You’ll also network and learn with peers from the region.

By the end of the workshop, participants will increase their skills and abilities to:

  • Assume the facilitator role and navigate the dynamics of facilitating within an ongoing collaboration

  • Design and plan a meeting to maximize its effectiveness

  • Confidently manage and support a room of meeting participants to enable them to do their best work

  • Minimize the common problems that derail meetings

You’ll also engage with a network of peers to gain practical examples and ongoing support.

Who Should Attend?

This training is for staff and volunteer leaders who currently lead or aspire to lead a variety of types of meetings in a collaborative setting, whether you are working in a network, coalition, or other type of collaboration. It will be especially useful for leaders who facilitate meetings in addition to their other responsibilities, as well as for new or emerging leaders.

9:00 AM – 4:30 PM: Program includes lunch and two breaks

Cost

Registration for paid participants is not guaranteed until payment is received. Registration is first come, first served – limited to 25 participants.

Fees:

  • $285 per attendee for organizations with budgets $2 million and above

  • $235 per attendee for organizations with budgets below $2 million

  • $210 per attendee for individuals attending without organizational assistance

  • $60 per attendee for individuals whose organization is a William Penn Foundation-funded member of a DRWI cluster

NJ: The registration deadline is January 10th . Cost includes meals and snacks, materials, and facilitated instruction to help you strengthen your facilitation skills.

Optional Facilitator Guide

For an additional $35, you may order a new copy of Sam Kaner’s book: Facilitator’s Guide to Participatory Decision-Making (Third Edition) from ICL. Pay ICL now and receive your book at the training. This resource is highly recommended (but not required). It includes tools, templates, case studies and easy to follow instructions for facilitating in a variety of circumstances. Feel free to order your own copy in advance in a format of your choosing.

Workshop Leaders

The workshop is led by Sarah Clark, Senior Associate and Peter Lane, Consultant, from the Institute for Conservation Leadership Institute for Conservation Leadership.

Participants must be able to stay for the whole event, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Centenary University is located at 400 Jefferson Street Hackettstown, NJ 07840 : A university map, directions, and parking instructions will be sent out a week prior to the event. No parking fees apply.

Participants who are interested in sharing rides and coordinated travel plans will be connected after registering.

Refunds

For cancellations by January 10th, refunds can be processed, minus an $15 fee. After, January 10th, no refunds are available.
