ABOUT
The Faces of Hunger (FOH) Film Festival is a creative annual venture of Palms for Life that has attracted filmmakers, students, industry experts, academics, and activists to join in shedding light on the many complex issues around food, hunger, waste, access, quality and more, that mark our everyday life. FOH is a staple in the activism-through-film calendar.
Faces of Hunger gives filmmakers passionate about food issues a platform to show their work to a niche audience of like-minded individuals who in turn are inspired and encouraged to take action.
Faces of Hunger was launched in 2016 in partnership with New York University’s (NYU) Steinhardt department and the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. It was the first and only film festival to focus on food insecurity, quality and waste in the United States. In subsequent years, the festival grew to include international films as well as US-focused films. Through a partnership with Universities Fighting World Hunger (UFWH), Faces of Hunger expanded to screenings held in universities across the country and abroad. In its last season, over 33 universities hosted Faces of Hunger screenings which were followed by in-depth discussions covering the complexity of food issues.
In the 2020 season, FOH is adapting to the current global pandemic by hosting virtual screenings, which has the bonus potential of engaging a much wider audience.
