Event description

Description

A lion is the ultimate symbol of power and confidence. It isn't the largest, fastest, strongest, or most intelligent animal in the animal kingdom - yet, it is the king. What makes this so? How can we incorporate the mind-set of the lion into our own lives? The intention of this evening is to transfrorm shame into a sense of purpose, and self-doubt into self-confidence.

Just as two mirrors facing each other create an infinity pattern, when two humans connect in dyads, consciousness is expanded. Within this context we'll be co-exploring growth edges and new possibilities. We'll be using very specific exercises in authentic communication, listening, and seeing - but not in the sense of "normal" small-talk, sharing, or conversations. Other than structured communication exercises with partners, we will be in silence and isolation for most of the evening. This will also be a preview of Trauma 2 Satori, which is a longer, fully immersive weekend retreat.

What it is:

  • A safe, supportive environment for self-exploration and authentic communication.
  • A practice of deeply seeing and listening to others.
  • A helpful adjunct for trauma therapies or meditation practices.
  • A very powerful awareness practice.

What it isn't:

  • Philosophy.
  • Tough love.
  • Therapy.
  • Advice.

The value you'll receive is to:

  • Unlock and reclaim energy wasted in unconscious survival responses.
  • Increase the ability to connect with self and others by practicing deep presence while communicating and listening.
  • Build greater capacity for handling chaotic and stressful situations.
  • Increase your ability to accurately track inner-body sensations, which is a key to meditation, emotional self-regulation, and trauma resolution.

Event Background:

The processes we'll be using are based in part on Somatic Experiencing®, the social engagement system as described by Dr. Stephen Porges, and the "Enlightenment Intensive" concept which was created by Charles and Ava Berner in the 1960's.

From infancy, our nervous systems formed in a relational context with our primary caregiver(s). Through these early interactions, we instinctively learned to survive by following an attachment blueprint. When conditions are not ideal, survival strategies can sometimes become maladaptations later in life, sabotaging our ability to deeply connect. Also, it's during these first years of life when our ability to handle stress and adversity was shaped. As adults, it is possible to transform early shortcomings, and to heal trauma and the resulting shame it sometimes produces. We do this through safe processes which include attunement with empathic, non-stressed, non-depressed others. We'll be using very specific techniques which elicit presence, and help to create the necessary conditions for positive transformation and growth.

Event Details:

This evening be highly experiential and interactive. Clear instructions will be given to facilitate safe, nourishing connections and self-exploration within dyads (with partners), and within a group setting. We will be seated on the floor with meditation cushions or back jacks, and folding chairs will be available for those who may need them. Part of the process will also involve movement, so loose-fittng clothing is recommended.
