Celebrate summer and our new teen audio guide at Exuberus 2018, a FREE teen night at the Art Institute of Chicago.


NEW! Teen Audio Experience

Explore the galleries while listening to artistic interpretations—including stories, music, and poetry—created by teens and inspired by works of art in the Art Institute’s collection.

Teen-Led Tours & Activities

Check out artworks around the museum on tours led by teens, roam the galleries freely with friends, create t-shirts with our friends at ProjectUs, experience the balloon room, exchange temp tats, create in the drawing room.

Art Exchange

A Chicagoland swap and showcase of teen artwork.

  1. Bring your artwork to the Modern Wing entrance between 6-8pm.

  2. Participating artworks will be on public display all evening.

  3. At the end of the night, take home an original artwork created by another teen.

Open Stage

Open stage taking place from 8:00 - 8:30 in Rubloff Auditorium (and later at a smaller stage). Bring your poems, instruments, tap shoes, voices, dance skills, etc.

Spots are limited, first come first serve. There will be a sign up sheet the day of at check-in.

Party After-Hours

Stay after hours for an exclusive teen party featuring music, food, art, and dancing. Enjoy tunes by Boi Jeanius and Michael ‘Dj MBIII’ Barclay.

This evening is free and open to all Chicagoland high school students. Pre-registeration is encouraged.

Art Exchange Guidelines

3D work should be no bigger than 18”x18”x18”

2D work should be no bigger than 24”x18”

The Art Institute of Chicago (AIC) reserves the right to reject or refuse any submitted Object for any reason in its sole discretion. For example, museum policy prohibits us from accepting items longer than 8 feet. We are also unable to accept any Objects that AIC deems in its sole discretion to be hazardous, perishable, unlawful, and/or which contains any of the following items: organic matter that may harbor pests (such as potted plants, soil, sand, grasses, feather, moss, branches, bark, rose petals, hay, etc.), animals, confetti, rice, bird seed, balloons, bubbles, glitter, sequins, fireworks, sparklers, smoke/fog machines, dry ice, aerosol products (i.e. spray glue, spray glitter, spray snow, spray string, spray paint), vessels containing water, open flames. Rejected Objects may be checked in accordance with AIC's policies. AIC may require, in its sole discretion, that any Object be removed from the museum.

Objects accepted by AIC become the property of AIC and will not be returned. It is AIC’s intent that Objects will be randomly distributed among participants who submitted Objects, but AIC may dispose of any Object in its sole discretion. By submitting an Object, you: represent that such Object is your original creation and you have the right to give such Object to AIC, agree that AIC may include such Object in an installation of submitted objects, and grant AIC the non-exclusive, irrevocable, sub-licensable, royalty-free rights to reproduce, distribute, publicly display and/or display, adapt, modify, and otherwise exploit or use the Object for any purpose whatsoever, provided that AIC is under no obligation to use or include any Object, in its sole discretion.
