The Los Angeles Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy (LACEFT) is proud to present this outstanding training opportunity with Dr. Susan Johnson and Dr. Silvina Irwin. This program is an intermediate level of training, and will take place November 7, 8, 9 and 10, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (each day) at Cal Tech in Pasadena. The target audience is psychologists, social workers and MFT's, as well as for professionals who have the educational training and qualifications to practice as a mental health professional or are individuals currently enrolled in a formal training program or supervised internship for the purpose of becoming a mental health professional.
Dr. Susan Johnson is a world renowned EFT developer and trainer, author, clinical psychologist, researcher, professor, and popular presenter and speaker. She is a leading innovator in the field of EFT and is the primary developer of EFT for couples, which has demonstrated its effectiveness in over 25 years of peer-reviewed clinical research. Portions of this externship will be taught by Dr. Silvina Irwin. Dr. Irwin is a licensed clinical psychologist in Pasadena, CA, and co-founder of the EFT Resource Center. Dr. Irwin is an ICEEFT Certified Supervisor, Therapist and Trainer. She specializes in working with survivors of childhood and adult trauma, focusing on healing and recovery at the individual level, as well as addressing the impact that traumatic experiences have on intimate relationships in her work with couples. Externships in EFT
An EFT externship includes observation of live therapy sessions, presentations of theory and clinical techniques, skills training exercises, and discussion of specific cases, clinical material and issues. All participants will be required to keep confidential the clinical material presented in this training. Further:
Participants will obtain a clear understanding of the basic experiential and systemic concepts of an “Emotionally Focused” approach to couples therapy.
Participants will be able to conceptualize couple distress and relationship repair based on theories of attachment and emotion.
Participants will develop skills in helping partners reprocess the emotional responses that maintain relational distress.
Participants will develop skills in helping partners shape new interaction patterns and bonding events.
Participants will develop skills to overcome therapeutic impasses with couples.
Participants are also strongly encouraged to read the 2004 book on EFT – Creating Connections, prior to attending the externship.
Tuition is $850 before October 1, 2016, and $925 after October 1, 2016*. Refreshments, including coffee and water service, will be provided in the morning and afternoon. Lunch can be purchased at nearby restaurants.
For an additional $30, participants will earn 28 continuing education credits for attending the entire program. LACEFT is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists, and is also approved by the California Board of Behavioral Science to sponsor continuing education for MFT's and LCSW's. LACEFT maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
