About this Event

EXQUISITE GENDER

Meet Exquisite Gender, an eclectic trans explosion that doesn’t just play gigs — they create extravaganzas.

Exquisite Gender is a dynamic rock band from Atlanta and Athens, Ga. Its members are veteran guitarist and vocalist Bucky Motter with several CD’s under his belt, JoAnn Pfeiffer on guitar and synth guitar, Gina James on bass, Mandi MacDonald on drums, and Synn on lead vocals along with backup singers.

Synn has been singing and performing in Athens for over 10 years. She brings powerhouse vocals and colorful showmanship, prowling through the audience with a nasty sense of humor that is part sharp-edged and part loose cannon.

JoAnn has mad skills on the guitar, no doubt due to her classical training.

Besides blazing guitar solos, she arranges piano parts for the guitar, which is no small feat. Tunes featuring piano are covered by JoAnn’s sometimes sensitive, sometimes rockin’ touch by using a guitar synthesizer.

Hard driving drummer Mandi has played for several metal bands, and Gina has performed with dozens of rock bands.

Most of the band members are transgender and hope to help blaze a path of understanding through music.

Exquisite Gender is known for their covers of the award-winning Broadway play Hedwig and the Angry Inch, as well as rocked-up originals by Bucky, and cover tunes ranging from Glam to Metal.

Exquisite Gender exploded onto the Atlanta music scene in February 2018 with their maiden voyage, performing at Out Front Theatre. In October 2018 they exhibited their musical talents at the Atlanta Pride Festival. The band has also thrilled audiences at 10 High and Smith’s Olde Bar.

Exquisite Gender: Expect the unexpected.

FLAT CAT

Flat Cat is an original rock band based out of Atlanta. With blaring power-pop originals and the occasional unexpected cover tune, it's whatever cat style feels good at the moment.

Flat Cat started as a side project of Atlanta musician Chuck Brittain (guitarist with "The Cogburns" & "The Cherry Bomb" and formerly of "SSE") as an avenue for his original songs. Since its inception in 2007, the band has mutated to the super talented current line-up with Chuck sharing singing and writing credits with Bucky Motter (Bass), a gender queer performing songwriter and rocker. Bucky is a veteran of the Atlanta music scene with two critically acclaimed CD's and has opened for such artists as BB King, Indigo Girls, and the Manhattan Transfer. Amy "Catfish" Rollinson (from the rollerderby-themed band "Tricksy" and the Joan Jett cover band "The Cherry Bomb") has stepped up her musical chops and now helps front Flat Cat with her amazing scream, crunchy guitar sound, and lyric creativity. Rounding out the talented new line-up is Clay McClure (drummer from "SSE") who has taken the band from the straight forward 4/4 to a new rhythmic high and a new direction.

The new lineup wrote, recorded, and released "Artbreak Hotel" in 2011 while continuing to play the occasional Atlanta show (Smith's, Star Bar, Redlight Cafe, Drunken Unicorn, Highland Inn Ballroom) to keep the fans happy - as well as doing a small tour to NYC and through Connecticut. Past festival shows have included sharing the main stage of Birmingham's City Stages with The Doobie Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the Atlanta Pride Festival. 2012 finds the band writing material for a potential new CD.

"Black and White" magazine's preview of 2009 City Stages (June 11, 2009) calls Flat Cat "one of the event's most impressive rock bands".

"Birmingham Weekly" (June 18. 2009) - "If you are ready to venture into high concept with a low-fi ethic, then Flat Cat's where it's at.........Flat Cat likes to claw out the sort of raucous fun Paul Westerberg used to have.."
