Event description

Capturing images and stories of Identity in a Time of Accelerated Change

An experiential journey to explore known and unknown parts of your personal narrative and allow your story of Identity and Empowerment to unfold. Using your camera and guided mindfulness exercises, you will access and express your unique way of viewing this theme. Through group sharing and making connections with each other you will collaborate to support this process, helping one another embody their experience. By the last day you will help each other narrow down your shoots into a compelling ten image story that brings new awareness of pieces of your personal puzzle that fill in the picture and story you tell to shape your life in a time of chaos and uncertainty.

Suzanne and Linda will introduce you to techniques of self-portraiture, portraits of participants, centering exercises, and guided visualizations that will tap into images of your identity, unlock hidden parts and allow your story of strength and resilience to unfold.

‘Open up’ your awareness of your inner and outer world’

‘The results will be seen in expressive, atmospheric images

that bring you closer to your story’

Throughout this workshop you will:

  • Seek and find photo shoots in the desert to locate your place of Empowerment and create your series of images.
  • Participate in mindfulness exercises such as the “Wheel of Awareness.”
  • View and discuss photo books you admire. Discuss material published in Linda’s seven books.
  • Receive hand-outs and articles.
  • Share meals together.
  • Benefit from personal access to interaction with Linda and Suzanne to facilitate your process of shaping your vision.

About Suzanne Lovejoy and Linda Troeller

Suzanne and Linda have been close friends since high school, living a block apart, and most days walking to school together. Their friendship has grown over the last fifty years as they crossed paths and grew a deeper connection with each other. Last December they spent time sharing their stories of “identity and empowerment” through self-portraiture and portraits of each other. This workshop is the fulfillment of that experience!

Suzanne Lovejoy, MA, LMFT is a licensed marriage and family therapist, and certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy. She has a private practice in Tucson, Arizona with a focus on disrupting cycles of distress in relationships and creating new patterns of connection based upon safety, contact, care and connection with self and others. Over the span of Suzanne’s career, she worked in the field of Holistic Health as a massage therapist, practiced and taught workshops in Tai Chi, yoga and mindfulness. In her free time, Suzanne’s love of photography which began in her father’s dark room and is influenced by her friend Linda, has grown. She is excited to co-facilitate a workshop that integrates her love of experiential therapy, photography and self-other exploration.

Linda Troeller, BS, MA is a photographer who has won many awards. She has spent her career photographing women’s topic, community life and self-portraiture. She has made some of her personal challenges into book themes such as Healing Waters, Aperture; Spa Journeys, powerHouse Books, and Living in the Chelsea Hotel, Schiffer. She has taught many workshops, most recently at the Atlantic Center for the Arts. She has a MFA and MS from Syracuse University and BS from West Virginia University. She also assisted photographers such as Annie Leibovitz and Ansel Adams.
