Exploring the Wines of Abruzzo & Molise
Event Information
About this Event
Our first Wine Talk of 2021! This time around we are going to head into central-southern Italy and explore the wines of Abruzzo and Molise.
While Abruzzo is quite known for it’s beloved Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, the region has wonderful wines of other varieties. Molise is missing from many Italian wine lists, but the region hosts a fascinating mix of grape varieties, overlapping native varieties from Abruzzo, Basilicata, and Puglia and their own signature grape: Tinitilia.
We will be covering:
- An overall look at Abruzzo & Molise’s History (They overlapped until the1960s!)
- Montepulciano d’Abruzzo & the other traditional grape varieties of the area
- The primary appellations & wines of the area
- Highlighting some great producers to look out for!
A reminder, this won't be a proper tasting, but rather a dive into the history and theory of the winemaking in the area and the delicious wines coming from the regions.
You are welcome to grab a glass, some wines I recommend sipping along with: Talamonti Aeternum, Cirelli Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, Cataldi Madonna Malandrino Montepulciano d’Abruzzo a Falanghina or Tintilia from Molise or your favorite Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
Some great snacks to accompany: Depending on your chosen wine there may be different bites to pair best, feel free to message me if you’d like some recommendations! Some traditional dishes to taste would be lamb arrostoncini, pasta amatriciana, and sheep's milk cheese.
