Description

Join us at our normal time on Friday, January 5th for a 60 minute live, interactive planetarium show to learn what's up in the sky this month. We'll show you where to find what planets, constellations, meteor showers, aurora and interesting deep sky objects you can see in the night skies this month. Plus, we will share with you some of the latest exciting discoveries in astronomy!

Recommended for ages 6 yrs and up. Questions welcomed.

*Please remember to print off your tickets and bring them with you, or otherwise have your confirmation number handy!*

On Friday, showtimes will be at 5:30pm, 6:30pm, 7:30pm, and 8:30pm. The 5:30pm and 6:30pm shows will focus on the night skies of January.

Due to the capacity constraints of the planetarium, each time slot will be limited to the first 40 persons to RSVP here.

FAQs

What is a planetarium?

A planetarium is a dome shaped room with projections on the ceiling which display the planets, stars, and other celestial objects. It is different than an observatory, which is a building that houses telescope(s) to view the real night sky. You can find more information about the UW planetarium here.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

No. This event is open to everyone who has reserved a free ticket in advance.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Message UW Planetarium on Facebook, @UWPlanetarium on Twitter, or email us at uwplanetarium AT gmail DOT com

How do I get to the planetarium?

For directions to the auditorium building, please go the following link: http://depts.washington.edu/astron/outreach/uw-planetarium/#a6

The planetarium is on the second level of the Physics and Astronomy Auditorium (PAA) building in room A220, and there is elevator access.

Is there parking near the planetarium?

All personal vehicles must pay to park on campus. To find parking on campus first visit one of the parking Gatehouse locations, let them know your destination, and ask what the nearest available parking to the Physics/Astronomy Building is at that time of day. Gatehouse attendants can provide campus maps and directions.

Note that some parking lots may be full later in the day, so we do not recommend a specific lot here. The closest Gatehouse to our building is the West Gatehouse. Parking is $3 per hour before 4pm, with a maximum daily rate of $15. After 4pm parking costs a flat rate of $5. The closest drop-off locations near the planetarium are the 30 minute load/unload zones located on W Stevens Way NE. For more information on parking at the UW, please visit: http://www.washington.edu/facilities/transportation/park. For information on disability parking see here: http://www.washington.edu/facilities/transportation/park-disability
