Exploring Sustainability with Ice-Dye and Furoshiki

By HINDES

Overview

A collaboratively taught class with local dye artist, Miriam of Mad Mir Dye, and Daphne, owner of EcoPetites, a sustainable clothing line.

Come and learn how to ice-dye your own 2’x2’ furoshiki cloth – Ice Dye is a method of dyeing where as the ice melts, it pulls the procion dye into the fibers of the thread. While your cloth is setting, we’ll take time to explore the cultural roots and modern uses of furoshiki — traditional Japanese wrapping cloths used for carrying gifts, bento boxes, or everyday items. We’ll show you how this simple square of fabric can replace disposable gift wrap. You will learn a few stunning ways to fold and tie it for wrapping various shapes and sizes. All materials will be provided and washed out by the instructor. Finished furoshiki cloth will be mailed to you.
