Event description

Description

During 2007 and 2008, a team of explorers lead by Cristian Donoso started a 5 month adventure through the fjords and Southern Ice Fields of Western Patagonia. Supported by the “Rolex Award for Enterprise,” they accessed to uncharted territories never visited before by any human being. On their way, they registered the deep transformation of climate change over these landscapes that are still unknown to humanity.

Cristian, a hardy explorer and sailor, has kayaked countless miles in rough waters in some of the most inhospitable places on earth, and kayaked more miles in Antarctica than anyone in history. An expert in sailing and exploring the harsh environments of some of the southernmost areas of the world, his next expedition will be in one of the northernmost inhabited areas of the planet, to study and share the significance of the kayak in Inuit lives.

He will also screen his short film, “Los Coast” (22 min). During January and February of 2016, Cristian and Roger Rovira started their fifth expedition searching for the HMS Wager, a British sailing boat that shipwrecked on an undetermined island of the Patagonian coast in 1745. During that search, they instead found another shipwreck: the IMOCA 60 Hugo Boss yacht, which was originally lost in the South of Africa in 2006. The explorers found it ten years later, 20,000 kilometers away from the place it was last seen.
