Event description
Half-Day Workshop on Nov. 24 to Explore the Newly Updated Rx for Science Literacy Curriculum

About this Event

Join NCABR for a special, half-day virtual workshop on Tuesday, November 24, from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., where you can sample and provide input on new educational materials that have been added this year to the Rx for Science Literacy: The What, Where, How and Why of Health Science Research curriculum. Your input will shape the finalization of the new materials before the curriculum is distributed in 2021. The Biogen Foundation generously has provided funding this year to revise and expand the curriculum, which is produced by the North Carolina Association for Biomedical Research and is used in classrooms throughout North Carolina.

NOTE: Because the revised and expanded Rx for the Science Literacy curriculum manual is not yet final, participants will not receive a hard copy of the curriculum when participating in the November 24 workshop. Instead, all participants will be provided a link to the newly drafted activities the day of the workshop. This virtual workshop will be offered live and will not be available as a recording after the program is over. To receive continuing education credits for the program, all participants will be expected to participate in the entire workshop from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and to submit an online evaluation after the workshop.

About the Curriculum: The Rx for Science Literacy curriculum manual includes chapters on nanobiotechnology, regenerative medicine and vaccines and is accompanied by several resources, including a curriculum crosswalk that shows connections to North Carolina standards across many curricula areas, the Next Generation Science Standards and a reading guide related to the Common Core standards.

Incentives for attending an Rx for Science Literacy workshop include:

  • Attendees for this workshop will have priority registration status for the two spring 2021 virtual workshops (dates TBA) where the finalized curriculum will be unveiled in its entirety and will be provided to attendees at no cost.
  • 1 unit of certification renewal credit for North Carolina-certified educators (6 hours of additional work required)
  • Free draft activities from the supplemental curriculum
