You’re invited to learn how the Coming of the Railroad Changed Rockville forever - Explore Rockville’s rich history!

In the summer of 1873, the Metropolitan Branch of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad opened its station in Rockville. The arrival of the Railroad brought enormous change to Rockville, then a small agricultural village. Join this self-guided outdoor tour and scavenger hunt that will walk you through the sites and stories of how this exciting new transportation system caused Rockville to grow by leaps and bounds.

Tour stops are a SURPRISE! The 10+ stops about Rockville’s unique sites, stories, and art are located across the city – you’re invited to explore places you’ve never been and sites you pass by all the time unaware. This tour includes some highlights from our previous Explore Rockville events plus a few new stops.

After registration, every household will receive a link to a printable program with site details and scavenger hunt instructions for each stop by Thursday, May 25.

This event is designed for households to explore historic sites outdoors across the city, learn new details about the world around them, and enjoy communal pride through social media. Spots are limited! Earn a cool commemorative item* for completing the tour by tagging Peerless on Social Media, website guestbook, or e-mailing us with your scavenger results by Tuesday, May 30

*Limit 2 per household.

All ticket purchases and donations support local history, heritage, and preservation advocacy. We thank you for celebrating Rockville’s unique community identity with us and for your generous support.

Are you a community restaurant or business and want to join the tour? Become a sponsor and offer guests a freebie or discount for visiting your site! You can also advertise in the program without being a stop.
