Explore the Bay Circuit Trail with the Appalachian Mountain Club's President's Society! Join AMC staff as we hike three different sections of the trail this spring and summer.
Georgetown-Rowley State Forest, Georgetown
Thursday, May 11
Experience the new 76.5-foot boardwalk across the Mill River, freshly built by AMC volunteers and local partners. Thanks to the new bridge, we’ll be able to explore wetlands and beaver ponds on what had previously been a flooded section of the BCT. As spring reaches its peak, enjoy a variety of wildflowers, including marsh marigold and violets, in addition to beavers and wading birds.
Nashoba Brook Conservation Area, Acton
Thursday, July 13
Enjoy this relaxed hike along the meandering Nashoba Brook with many opportunities to learn about and view historic artifacts and local ecology. Points of interest include mill foundations, Native American stone piles, a stone chamber (referred to as the “Potato Cave”), and a 19th century pencil factory. In addition to the history, be enchanted by marshland, upland forest, and even a small waterfall.
Noon Hill Reservation, Medfield
Thursday, September 21
Varied forest, grand views, and abundant wildlife characterize this moderate hike in the Trustees of Reservations’ Noon Hill. Hike alongside rocky cliffs to be rewarded with a scenic vista of the southern hills of Walpole and Norfolk, a great place to observe hawks during fall migration. Additionally we’ll witness the evidence of glacial activity that carved depressions in the hill thousands of years ago and contributed to the unique features we see today.
