Event description

Description

Join us for our next “Experience Tennessee” bus day trip as we travel to the Alex Haley Museum and Ft. Pillow State Park in beautiful West Tennessee.

Alex Haley is famous for writing Roots, which inspired many Americans to research their own ancestors. Many of the stories he recounted in this powerful book were heard on the front porch of his family home- today the Alex Haley Museum & Interpretative Center.

Ft. Pillow is close by and is the site of a controversial and deadly 1864 Civil War battle that claimed the lives of most of the African American soldiers defending it. Today, you can hike to the restored inner fort and see the beautiful Mississippi river.

Both of these sites (and the bus ride) will be guided by knowledgeable historians and literature experts. Sign up now to reserve your spot!
