Description

URGENT UPDATE: EXPERIENCE SANKOFA PROJECT POSTPONED THROUGH APRIL 1 DUE TO SUPPORT PUBLIC HEALTH. Be well everyone!

The EXPERIENCE SANKOFA PROJECT (ESP) Living Museum is an innovative installation exhibit that combines history, live performance art, and sacred altars into an interactive timeline of African and American history.

Join us for the full 90-minute experience that includes facilitated conversations and self-guided tours through period-specific “living installations” that evoke visceral emotions as an ode to African peoples’ greatness, oppression, resistance, and aspirations.

From the Original Woman to Timbuktu, the Transatlantic Slave trade to Black Wallstreet, the Harlem Renaissance to the Black Panthers, this exhibit brings history to life, highlighting Oakland's specific contributions. It is our goal that the community will glean a better understanding of African/Black peoples’ contributions to human civilization. Let's (re)activate our human connections that build understanding, empathy, and solidarity so we can transform our social realities and create a more positive future. Watch our Video at www.spearitwurx.com/events for more info!

Please arrive 15 minutes early and plan to participate in the full 90-minute experience.

Spearitwurx Center for Culture & Wellness is located inside Lower Eastmont Mall. Please enter the building between Shiekh and Rainbow on the Bancroft Side of Eastmont. Free Parking available.

TICKET OPTIONS:

$16.19: General Admission of ONE admission to ONE Experience

$161.90: Pay it Forward: Invest in the Experience Sankofa Project and get TWO VIP admissions to ONE Experience + ESP Gift Bag.

These ticket prices are in honor of 1619, the year the first documented ship landed in Jamestown, Virginia with a cargo of enslaved Africans - over 400 years ago. Together, we can heal the inter-generational impacts of slavery on ALL people. It starts with us.
