Description

Celebrate Black History Month by taking part in the Experience Ghana photography, textile art and fashion exhibition.

Experience and learn about the history and culture of Ghana, a West African country formerly known as the Gold Coast.

DATE: Saturday, February 17, 2018

TIME: 11:00am - 2:00pm

LOCATION: Glenview Presbyterian Church (1 Glenview Ave., Toronto, Ontario M4R 1P5)

How to get there:

  • BY BUS: get off at Lawrence Subway Station, and walk south of Yonge Street for 8 minutes. The church will be on your right side.

  • BY CAR: use Google Maps. There's free parking on Glenview Ave. (i.e. on the east and north side of the church), across Yonge St. along Glengrove Ave. E and at the end of Alexander Muir Rd.

Photography: "Back Home to Ghana"

A remarkable exhibition of the culture and life in Ghana, celebrating the nation's culture and heritage while boldly telling stories about the country through a critical lens.

The exhibition will feature photographic work from some of Ghana's best emerging and established artists, along with other acclaimed international photographers:

Explore the exhibition of Ghanaian-inspired traditional and contemporary fashion by award-winning fashion designer Nana Bediako.

Goods from Ghana from Ankara Beads, a retailer working with Artisans to bring quality handmade accessories from Ghana and Africa to the world will be available for purchasing.

These goods are brought directly from artisans and gifted craftspeople, at their asking price. Your purchase helps them stay in business in the face of fierce competition from cheap, and often, inferior quality imports, while allowing them to earn a decent income to take care of their families.
