Event description

Description

CHOP SHOP: Bodies of Work is proud to partner with The City of Bellevue Parks and Community Services Department to offer the FREE Experience Dance Program! These free, unique, and fun dance classes serve as companion events to the CHOP SHOP Contemporary Dance Festival, held February 17 & 18 at Meydenbauer Center Theatre, through education and experience. In addition to experiencing modern and contemporary dance directly, all Experience Dance Program participants receive a reduced price $5 ticket to the 2018 festival performance of their choice! Two classes are offered as part of the program:

Reading Dance is your chance to engage directly with festival artists as they discuss the craft of choreography. Join Alicia Mullikin, choreographer, dancer, teaching artist, and Artistic Director of MORENA, as she demystifies and reveals the creative process behind contemporary dance and dance for film. Discover the type of movement language contemporary dance uses, learn different ways that dances are formed, and ask questions of the artist. Reading Dance is open to all ages and abilities.

Introduction to Modern Dance is a fun dance technique class for those interested in learning basic modern dance movement vocabulary. Teaching artist Alicia Mullikin leads participants through a series of exercises that explore the type of contemporary dance movement presented at CHOP SHOP: Bodies of Work. No experience is necessary! Introduction to Modern Dance is open to all over the age of 8 and all abilities. Please dress in comfortable clothing.
