This online offering serves the goal of advancing the nurses’ knowledge of pain management using current, evidence-based guidelines for the appropriate use of opioids, non-opioid medications and non-pharmacologic interventions.

The learner outcome of this offering is:

RNs will enhance their knowledge of the management of pain through a quality pain assessment, ethical practice strategies, and the appropriate and safe use of opioid, non-opioid and non-pharmacological interventions in the current environment of opioid misuse and legislative oversight, achieving at least 80% accuracy on the post-test quiz.

This program complies with the requirement for continuing nursing education (CNE) and provides 1.8 contact hours of pain and pain symptom management, nearly fulfilling the 2.0 contact hour’s requirement for RN relicensure within the state of Michigan. The learning activity will be available to learners for 3 years, until 2021. There is no conflict of interest for anyone with the ability to control content for this activity. Successful completion criteria for CNE includes an engagement with the required content, 80% or better pass rate on the course quiz, and a completed evaluation.
