Event description

Description

Do you know the Servicemembers, Veterans, and their families who worship in your congregation or live in your community?

Have you considered how your faith community could support them before, during and after deployment? After separation from active duty? After they return from combat? As they reintegrate into civlian life?

If not, you are not alone! With your help, Veteran Interfaith Bridge wants to change that.

Why is this important?

Research shows of the 2.6 million Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans, 1/2 need some sort of support. For instance:

  • 40% have difficulty finding meaning, purpose or getting in touch with spirituality.
  • 55% feel disconnected from civilian life
  • 1/2 - 1/4 are frustrated with: * Social functioning (Making non military friend.) * Productivity (Finding and keeping their next career.) * Community involvement

And, Vietnam and Gulf war Veterans also welcome and appreciate connections with and support from the faith community.

Civilian faith community support is particularly important because most military families spend more time with civilian congregations than with their military faith community.

Join us for a 2.5-hour instruction to learn about the:

  • Prevalence of needs & distinctions of military culture

  • Examples of military ministry approaches
  • Best practices for empowering volunteer lay leaders
