Event Details

Exeter at Saïd is a series of collaborative events in which the Rector of Exeter College brings a high-level speaker to the Saïd Business School to give a seminar, followed by a drinks reception.

Tom Standage, Digital Editor of The Economist, will deliver his seminar at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford on Thursday 8 November 2012 on "Mobile Phones and Economic Growth".

Mobile Phones and Economic Growth

  • What can the price of sardines in India tell us about economic development?
  • Why do warlords leave mobile networks alone, even in war-torn countries?
  • Exactly how much extra economic growth does the spread of mobile phones provide?
  • And where will the next wave of mobile-driven development come from?

These are some of the questions Tom Standage, Digital Editor of The Economist, will address as he examines the economic impact of mobile phones.
