Event Details

Pilates for Osteoporosis Classes are Pilates-based exercise classes designed to help prevent bone loss, prevent falls and build bone density. See below for session descriptions and times.

9:00am LEVEL 1 SESSION
Introduction to Pilates for Bone Building, Injuries and Fall Prevention

  • Foot Care for painful bunions, hammertoes or plantar fasciitis
  • Standing posture alignment and self-correction techniques; foot, knee, and hip alignment for preparation of weight-bearing and strength training exercises
  • Spinal mobility safety for fracture prevention and spinal bone building exercises
  • Core control of the deep abdominals and trunk
  • Neck and shoulder alignment for decreased neck and shoulder tension and pain

All of these principles will help you to be able to exercise safely and without pain to affected joints so that you can begin to add weight and resistance for bone building exercises. If you have any difficulties, you may discuss them with the teacher prior to class. Bring a yoga mat that is either 1/8 or 1/4” thick x 5 or 6 feet long to class.

10:00am LEVEL 2 SESSION
Pilates for Bone Building

Continue to practice the skills learned in Level 1.  Practice precautions, proper posture, biomechanical alignment, balance, leg strength, core control, and breathing for fracture prevention and bone building exercises.  We focus on mastery of body awareness, form, postural correction and core control with exercises that involve weight-bearing, dynamic balance, and spinal mobility.   Special focus is on using Pilates-based exercises to prevent osteoporotic fractures, reduce joint pain and make daily tasks easier and to incorporate FUNctional fitness!

Modifications will be offered for common injuries such as knee pain, back pain or other conditions.  You should be able to get down to and up from the floor for mat exercises to participate in this class. Bring a yoga mat that is either 1/8 or 1/4” thick x 5 or 6 feet long to class.
