Wed, April 5, 2017, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM EDT
Shifting: African American Women Artists and the Power of Their Gaze explores how African American female artists turn their gaze on themselves and on other women. Not attempting to provide one answer, this exhibition serves as a platform for creating a dialogue around the questions: Whose gaze is it? Is the male gaze also the female gaze? Are women looking at themselves through the male gaze?
PGAAMCC invites members, Culture Keepers students, and their families to a private tour of the David C. Driskell Center's exhibition to engage in an intergenerational dialogue about black femininity, perspective, and transformation. A brief discussion, hosted by Synatra Smith, Ph.D., will occur after the tour and light refreshments will be served.
