Event Details

On August 28, please join us for a free exclusive screening of Crown Heights followed by a discussion and Q&A with an expert panel, along with supporting actor Nnamdi Asomugha, and Colin Warner, the man whose incredible story inspired the making of this film.

Colin Warner was wrongly convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. For the next 20 years, Colin’s childhood friend Carl “KC” King devoted his life to fighting for his freedom. Crown Heights takes us on Colin's journey to freedom, acknowledging every hardship along the way. This true story was adapted for film by writer/director Matt Ruskin, drawing from the acclaimed "This American Life" radio broadcast, with Lakeith Stanfield playing Colin Warner and Nnamdi Asomugha as Carl King. The film earned the 2017 Sundance Audience Award for U.S. drama.

**RSVP REQUIRED**

Panelists include:

Colin Warner is the man whose story inspired the making of Crown Heights. He was wrongfully convicted, sentenced to life, and spent 21 years in prison before finally being exonerated.

Nnamdi Asomugha is an actor, philanthropist, and former 4x NFL All-Pro cornerback. He plays Colin Warner’s best friend, Carl King, in the film. His philanthropic work through the Asomugha Foundation includes providing orphans and widows with basic necessities like food and shelter and planning college tours for at-risk high school students.

Marissa Boyers Bluestine, who will serve as the panel's moderator, is the Legal Director of the Pennsylvania Innocence Project. She leads the legal initiatives of the organization and advocates on behalf of wrongfully convicted persons directly in court.

Larry Krasner is the 2017 Democratic Nominee for Philadelphia District Attorney. For more than 30 years, he has fought for the fair treatment of all Philadelphians of all backgrounds. He is an advocate for criminal justice reform and ending mass incarceration in all forms.

Bill Cobb is the Deputy Director of the ACLU's Campaign for Smart Justice, which aims to reduce the number of Americans serving time in our nation by a minimum 50 percent. He was formerly incarcerated and now dedicates his life to improving the quality of life for people living in communities adversely impacted by issues related to mass incarceration.
