'I Could Have Been A Tree Instead' featuring one of our exhibiting artists, Beatrix Ost. Directed by Abel Okugawa.

Join us for an evening with the icon Beatrix Ost as we screen her short film, I Could Have Been a Tree Instead -

There will be popcorn & wine! Come through :)

This short-film is a digital creation sprung out of the surreal art of Beatrix Ost and Michelle Gagliano. A surrealist dive into the immediate realities of humanity’s affect on Earth - imploring us to pay attention, asking us to look deeper at our personal affects on our internal and external environments.

How can we make our individual and collective lives more meaningful, beautiful, and with heart? What will it require for us to know we are all an integral part of nature?

Abel Okugawa specializes in creating cinematic sound and audiovisual art in the forms of NFT artwork, television, film, and interactive projects. Over his 20 years as a recording artist, Okugawa has been creating his unique blend of electronic music that fuses urban flavors with natural, organic elements that tell his own musical story, using the hidden intricacies of sound and rhythm to bring life to each and every recording.

Beatrix Ost is an artist, writer, fashion designer, and ambassador of peace. She has written screenplays, produced movies and theater, and acted in films and on the stage. When she arrived in New York from Germany as a young adult, she quickly became an art and fashion icon – and has remained an influential and acclaimed luminary in both worlds. She currently splits her time between Charlottesville, Virginia and New York City.

Michelle Gagliano’s artwork captures strong expressive movements that hold the essential forces of nature, merging historical elements and techniques through a contemporary lens. The philosophical expansion of her art embraces the nature and sustainability that stretches beyond boundaries. Her resume includes residencies at the Chautauqua School of Art and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Gagliano has permeated the American art scene with extensive solo exhibitions, curated group shows, and museum exhibitions throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.
