Event description

Description

Step inside a century-old Gramercy brownstone for a private look at the boyhood home of the first born & bred New Yorker to become president of the United States.

Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive after-hours tour of the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site, a 1919 reconstructed version of the 1848 townhouse where Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, lived from his birth on October 27, 1858 until he was 14 years old.

Led by a National Park Ranger, our special experience at the restored townhouse in Gramercy will include:

  • An overview of Theodore Roosevelt during childhood, who was known as a “sickly yet bright boy who exercised to improve his health and began a lifelong passion for the ‘strenuous life’”
  • A private walkthrough of the reconstructed Roosevelt house featuring five fully furnished period rooms that offer insight into what life was like for a wealthy New York family in the 1860s
  • A look at objects and furnishings from the original Roosevelt family residence, including volumes from his library
  • A visit to the collections on view that illustrates Roosevelt’s early family life, as well as his late military and political career
