Event description

Description

Location: Red Lodge
Miles/Difficulty: 9 miles/Strenuous
Leaders: Aubrey Bertram

Enjoy a beautiful hike in the Beartooth Mountains, managed by the Custer Gallatin National Forest. This out-and-back trail begins with a steep, exposed climb through the old forest fire burn area before entering thick stands of pines and beautiful wildflowers. We'll take a short break at Lake Gertrude, just inside the boundary of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness area, before heading on to the namesake lake of the trail. Timberline Lake sits in a beautiful, quintessentially-Beartooth cirque, perfect for an awe-inspiring lunch. Hearty hikers can take a dip in the glacier lake before we hike back to the parking lot. Meet at Timberline Lake Trailhead.
