Event description
Join us for a discussion of the impact that social media and activist movements have had on reputation management and crisis communications.

About this Event

Join us for a discussion of the impact that social media and activist movements have had on reputation management and crisis communications in policing. We will present on the controversial history of the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) and its relationship with Indigenous Peoples, the building and strengthening of that relationship and how the introduction of world events, activism and the use of social media effects it.

Our speakers will be:

  • Alyson Edwards, the Director of Public Affairs for the SPS, who is responsible for strategic communications, including media relations, brand management and marketing, and Saskatoon Crime Stoppers. Alyson has been with the SPS for more than 14 years. Before joining the SPS she spent six years in media relations with the Saskatoon Fire Department, three of those also as the Emergency Measures Coordinator for Saskatoon. Her first career was in broadcast journalism both in radio and television news. She is an instructor of media relations at the Saskatchewan Police College and has works as a consultant on crisis communications for municipalities and private industry.
  • Kelsie Fraser, the Senior Public Affairs Specialist with the SPS. From airline bomb threats to barricaded persons to homicides, she has used social and traditional media to deliver relevant and timely information to the community. Kelsie understands the importance of listening, monitoring and engaging with the community and media on social media with consideration for operational tactics. She has taught and consulted with police officers and agencies from across Saskatchewan on social media use in law enforcement and presented at municipal, provincial, national and international meetings and conferences.
