Event description

Description

Tenacious and innovative string musicians & dancers with a quirky neo-traditional feel, the Evie Ladin Band throws down soulful folk songs with an unusual live show. While their third release, the 2016 release Jump the Fire brought a feature in the San Francisco Chronicle, it’s the effusive audience response that keeps them touring around the world.

Evie Ladin & Keith Terry lead a double life, between the Trad/Folk Circuit and the International Body Music Scene. It’s the intermingling of music and dance, adventurous visual rhythms, with clever lyrics and mature arrangements, that make the ELB so potent, the performance experience a stand-out.

A saucy chanteuse whose seductive prowess [is]… nothing less than a homespun hoot. This particular Fire emits plenty of down home heat. - No Depression

Keith Terry (bass, percussion, body music, vocals) is a renowned percussionist/rhythm dancer, and the founder of the International Body Music Festival. A pioneer in contemporary Body Music, Keith produces large-scale intercultural collaborations and educational outreach. Keith brings a cinematic ear to playing bass as tonal percussion, with bells, box, body and toys.

Erik Pearson (guitar, banjo, vocals) is a musician's musician with the Crooked Jades, storyteller Diane Ferlatte, and his solo projects. His original banjo tune "Fork & File" was the soundtrack for a rapids rafting scene in Sean Penn's movie Into the Wild.

Opening the show are Richie & Rosie, who are a dynamic duo performing music rooted in the Americana tradition. Over the past six years they have collaborated in various projects and formed Richie and Rosie after hours of jamming in Stearns' kitchen, experimenting with traditional and original songs.

Rosie Newton is a talented fiddler and singer who was raised in a musical family, and found her musical inspirations by attending music parties and fiddle camps at a young age. She has toured with The Duhks, Louisiana legend Preston Frank, Kristin Andreassen, her mother’s Scottish band, Ferintosh, and The Pearly Snaps.

Richie Stearns is a legendary banjo player and singer, and has led bands including The Horse Flies and Donna the Buffalo. He has also played with countless others, and tours with Natalie Merchant.

In combining their musical efforts, Richie and Rosie draw from American old-time music, Appalachian folk, blues, African, rock, cajun, and country music. These two take the fiddle, banjo combination to new levels as they continue to expand the boundaries of this tradition.

Tickets are $18 and are available in advance at the link below or at the door the night of the show. Doors open one hour before showtime. The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (21+) space. If you have any questions or need more information, please call us at #510-654-3808.
