Event description

Description

Are you looking for a childbirth class in Lexington, Kentucky, that gives you the inside scoop on evidence-based options like eating and drinking during labor, water immersion during labor, non-drug pain management, and pushing in whatever position you find most comfortable?

By taking the Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class, you and your partner will not only learn the evidence for these options, but you’ll also gain the tools you need and be able to create the ultimate team for the birth you want.

All classes are taught by Rebecca Dekker, PhD, RN, APRN, LCCE. Rebecca is a PhD-prepared nurse and Lamaze-certified childbirth educator who also happens to be the founder of Evidence Based Birth®!

October Childbirth Class Series:

  • Five-week class series on Monday nights from 7-9 PM
  • October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
  • $240 total for the pregnant parent and their support person
  • Meets at a central location in Lexington– Beaumont Presbyterian Church, on Lane Allen (between Versailles and Harrodsburg Rd).

What is Included in this Childbirth Class?

After many years of working with college students, I’ve learned that today’s generation loves to learn online, but is also craving in-person interaction that they can’t get from a device. They also want someone (an experienced guide) to show them how they can create their own path to their best birth.

To solve these problems, we offer a “flipped classroom” experience, where you watch amazing video lessons outside of class, and then come to class ready to pick Rebecca’s brain, role play your labor, create your birth plan, and discuss hot topics with your classmates!

Topics Covered

These are the topics we’ll cover that will help you and your chosen birth partner prepare for birth!

  • Evidence based care during pregnancy and labor
  • Bias and fears about childbirth
  • Comfort measures and pain management
  • Stages of labor
  • Relaxation practice
  • History of birth in America, including the history of how partners have become more involved
  • Most common preventable causes of Cesarean
  • You and your partner’s power status in the hospital
  • How you and your partner can talk with your provider during prenatal visits
  • The role of a doula in supporting both the birthing parent and their partner
  • How to tell fact from fiction when reading birth articles online
  • How you and your partner can communicate with midwives, nurses, and doctors
  • Your legal and human rights during labor
  • How (and why!) you should show love to hospital staff
  • Evidence on different labor interventions
  • Developing your birth plan
  • Labor and birth rehearsal

Will I learn how to have a Natural Birth?

At Evidence Based Birth®, we believe that every person has their own unique path. Instead of focusing on medicated vs. unmedicated birth, we focus on giving you tools and helping you learn the evidence, so that you can be empowered to make your own decisions!

At the end of this class, you will have all the tools you need to create your ultimate labor and birth experience. If you want a natural birth, this class will give you the relaxation and pain management tools you need to have a natural birth. If you need an epidural or Cesarean, we’ll cover how you can be empowered that way, too!

This class does not offer breastfeeding info. However, a private or group breastfeeding and newborn care class is available for an additional fee of $50.

What does Registration Include?

Registration for the small group class includes the in-person class series, access to online, mini-courses on the Evidence Based Birth® Academy, and printed materials ($240). One ticket is good for both the pregnant parent and their chosen support person. Your doula is also invited to attend the class series, if you have hired a doula.

Inclusion Policy:

Evidence Based Birth® is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for pregnant persons of any age, religion, race, sexual identity, gender identity, or relationship status.

Refund Policy:

Registration must be paid by the start of the class. If you cancel the class, your deposit is non-refundable.
