Event description

Are you looking for a childbirth class in Lexington, Kentucky, that gives you the inside scoop on evidence-based options like eating and drinking during labor, water immersion during labor, non-drug pain management, and pushing in whatever position you find most comfortable?

By taking the Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class, you and your partner will not only learn the evidence for these options, but you’ll also gain the tools you need and be able to create the ultimate team for the birth you want.

All classes are taught by Rebecca Dekker, PhD, RN, APRN, LCCE. Rebecca is a PhD-prepared nurse and Lamaze-certified childbirth educator who also happens to be the founder of Evidence Based Birth®!

October Childbirth Class Series:

  • Four-week class series on Monday nights from 7-9 PM
  • Meets on January 15 and 22, February 12 and 19
  • $190 total for the pregnant parent and their support person to take the childbirth class
  • $30 additional if you would like to add a breastfeeding and baby class on Feb. 26
  • Meets at a central location in Lexington– Beaumont Presbyterian Church, on Lane Allen (between Versailles and Harrodsburg Rd).

What is Included in this Childbirth Class?

We offer a “flipped classroom” experience, where you watch Savvy Birth Online lessons outside of class, and then come to class ready to role play your labor, practice comfort techniques, create your birth plan, and discuss hot topics with your teacher and classmates! We will provide incentives for doing the out-of-class work-- for every lesson you learn online outside of class, you will earn points towards gift certificates for cheesecake or beer!

Topics Covered

These are the topics we’ll cover that will help you and your chosen birth partner prepare for birth!

Class 1: Evidence Based Care, Bias, Fears & Comfort, Stages of Labor

Class 2: Navigating the Healthcare System, Providers (Models of Care), Support, Doulas, Communicating with hospital staff

Class 3: Know your Rights, Love, Interventions

Class 4: Labor Rehearsal + Postpartum Discussion

An in-person class on breastfeeding and baby can be added for a $30 fee.

Will I Learn how to have a Natural Birth?

At Evidence Based Birth®, we believe that every person has their own unique path. Instead of focusing on medicated vs. unmedicated birth, we focus on giving you tools and helping you learn the evidence, so that you can be empowered to make your own decisions!

At the end of this class, you will have all the tools you need to create your ultimate labor and birth experience. If you want a natural birth, this class will give you the relaxation and pain management tools you need to have a natural birth. If you need an epidural or Cesarean, we’ll cover how you can be empowered that way, too!

What does Registration Include?

Registration for the small group class includes the in-person class series, access to Savvy Birth Online (video lessons), and printed materials ($190). One ticket is good for both the pregnant parent and their chosen support person. Your doula is also invited to attend the class series, if you have hired a doula. If you would like to add the breastfeeding & baby class, the total will be $210 ($30 extra).
