Everyday Technology: Personal Productivity

Managing workflow, emails, research, writing, and large projects can become increasingly overwhelming. This is the first part of three workshop series to help you use everyday technology to improve how you work and how you teach. Personal productivity will cover the following topics:

September 27th (10am-11am): Information Overload

Location: LL118 Bizzell Memorial Library – Helmerich Collaborative Learning Center

This session focuses on the “information overload” we face in academia. We will explore programs designed to manage journals, articles, book notes, websites, conference papers, and more. If you feel yourself drowning in information or have ever struggled to find documents or papers, this session is for you. For OU faculty and graduate students. Light refreshments will be provided.

October 11th (10am-11am): Project Management

Location: LL118 Bizzell Memorial Library – Helmerich Collaborative Learning Center

This session is dedicated to resources for large project management. Whether you are planning a curriculum revision or running a research project, the programs and applications outlined in this session will help you manage your time and resources effectively. For OU faculty and graduate students. Light refreshments will be provided.

About the Series:

In our increasingly tech-dependent culture, it is easy to feel intimidated and overwhelmed by all the new programs, apps, and tools that claim to make our lives “easier.” It is sometimes difficult to know which tools are actually helpful and which are just passing fads. Additionally, faculty face unique problems (communicating with students, managing large research projects, organizing a near constant flow of information, etc.), and it is not always clear how best to use technology to meet these needs.

This series will focus on the use of everyday technology for faculty (although the broad application will be useful for others as well). Topic areas will include:

  • § personal productivity (including project management, day-to-day tasks, and creating a smooth workflow);
  • § collaboration tools for working with both students and peers;
  • § classroom engagement tech tools (including assignment creation, presentation tools, and social media).

Demo labs will be held approximately every other week, with each lab addressing a new theme. Participants are encouraged to bring laptops, tablets, and other devices.
