Event description
Do you know the rights children are entitled to at school under the Every Student Succeeds Act?

About this Event

The Every Student Succeeds Act is a U.S. law passed in December 2015 that governs the United States K–12 public education policy. The law replaced its predecessor, the No Child Left Behind Act, and modified, but did not eliminate, provisions relating to the periodic standardized tests given to students. Join VOICES and Joey Taylor, Foster Care Education Coordinator at the Arizona Department of Education, as he covers the educational rights of children in foster care. Joey will explain how to advocate for these rights and how to overcome the barriers that arise. Topics to be covered in this training include school stability, transportation, special education, and enrollment. CASAs will leave the training with information to help them advocate for students in foster care within the school system as well as obtain educational resources to connect their youth with.
